“You gotta have Heart”

“You gotta have Heart”

I’m Just Sayin‘– Blog:

“You Gotta have Heart”

This theme song is from the Broadway play, “Damn Yankees” (1955) is the inspiration behind these Amazing facts about your heart.

Jerry Ross,  composer-lyricist, died prematurely at age twenty-nine,  he won Tony Awards® for two of the best-loved musicals in Broadway history, The Pajama Game and Damn Yankees – both written with Richard Adler, his frequent collaborator lyricist:

A few lines from this song……

You gotta have heart
All you really need is heart
When the odds are saying you’ll never win
That’s when the grin should start

You gotta have hope
Mustn’t sit around and mope
Nothing’s half as bad as it may appear
Wait’ll next year and hope

When your luck is battin’ zero
Get your chin up off the floor
Mister, you can be a hero
You can open any door
There’s nothing to it
But to do it

You’ve gotta have heart
Miles and miles and miles of heart
Oh, it’s fine to be a genius, of course
But keep that old horse before the cart
First, you gotta have heart

We’re so happy that we’re hummin’
That’s the hearty thing to do
‘Cause we know our ship will come in
So it’s ten years overdue………..

What a great song. It is said that the emotion [Love] must come from the heart. It could be because there is no concrete explanation for the feeling that is invoked from an electrical/chemical stimulus. The heart is the first organ to form in the embryo. Its synchronized precision comes from electrical impulses sent from the Nervous system in rhythmic intervals.

Some Heart Facts:

  • An adult heart beats about 60 to 80 times per minute
  •  Newborns’ hearts beat faster than adult hearts, about 70 to 190 beats per minute.
  • The heart is located in the center of the chest, usually pointing slightly left.
  • Laughter causes the tissues of the heart to expand and that increases blood flow, reduces stress and boosts the immune system. “Laughter is the best Medicine”
  • The heart weighs about 11 ounces, beats 100,000 times a day and pumps 2,000 gallons of blood as it travels our 60,000 miles of vessels daily!
  • The right side of your heart receives oxygen-poor blood from your veins and pumps it to your lungs, where it picks up oxygen and gets rid of carbon dioxide.
  • The left side of your heart receives oxygen-rich blood from your lungs and pumps it through your arteries to the rest of your body. You are an amazing piece of work! And, to think that it [heart] does this all day, every day without a vacation.
  • The average woman ‘s heart will beat faster than a man’s heart by eight (8) beats per minute.
  • The more education you have, the lower your risk of heart disease.
  • The Blue whale has the largest heart, weighing over 1500 pounds!
  • Eating dark chocolate reduces risk of heart disease by one third. Bring on the chocolate (dark-70% or more).
  • Men having an affair are more likely to die of cardiac arrest during sex. (I’m just reporting the research!)
  • A 2008 study says having a cat can lower stress/anxiety and yes, heart disease.
  • The heart will synchronize beats of lovers and music.
  • It is said that you can die of a broken heart. There are reports of couples who have lived a long life together, died days, months or even within hours of a loved one because of a broken heart.
  • A heart attack is a “circulation” problem and sudden cardiac arrest is an “electrical” problem.
  • If the brain is the engine of the body, than the heart is the Battery!
  • When the body is at rest, it takes about six seconds for the blood to go from the heart to the lungs and back.
  • The thumping sound of the heart is made by the four valves of the heart closing.
  • Ancient Egyptians believed the heart, rather than the brain, was the source of emotion, wisdom and memory.
  • Within a tiny droplet of blood, there are about 5 million red blood cells.
  • Red blood cells have to move in a single-file line to fit through the miniscule capillaries in the body.

Unfortunately, heart disease is still the number #1 cause of death in the U.S.  Stress, inactivity and a poor diet continues to claim more Americans and at much younger age. We must remain vigilant in regards to our heart health.

Maintaining good Heart Health

  • Don’t accept the status quo after you find out what is causing your stress. No more ‘go along to get along’. Your physical and mental health are at stake.
  • Let’s take back our power over the food we consume. Read the label! If you Can’t pronounce it and no one at the store can explain what it is….? Leave it at the store!
  • Promise yourself that you will find time to walk 10-15 minutes away from your house daily to get the blood circulating. It will make a world of difference.

Food the Final Frontier:

Let’s begin eating food that nourishes. If the food had to be killed for your consumption and nourishment how effective will it be in keeping you Alive? I’m Just Sayin’  If cola and chips are not good enough for the dog, the car, the plants, why are we eating them?©
